The competition

What is Miss Universe France?

Miss Universe France is the national organisation responsible for selecting France’s representative at the international Miss Universe competition. Every participating country entrusts that job to a national organisation; in France the role was held for decades by the Miss France organisation.

A new French selection is being put in place for the 2026 edition. The exact terms will be set out by the international organisation.

What is the difference between Miss France and Miss Universe France?

They are two separate competitions run by two separate organisations. Miss France is a national competition with its own regional committees and its own final; Miss Universe France selects only the candidate sent to the international Miss Universe competition.

Until 2025 the winner of Miss France also represented France at Miss Universe. The Miss France organisation announced it would not send a candidate in 2026, which separates the two paths.

In practice: there is no longer a regional circuit to climb in order to compete at Miss Universe. The selection is open to women from every French region and territory.

Is Miss Universe France connected to the Miss France organisation?

No. Miss Universe France and the Miss France organisation are independent of one another. They are different competitions with different organisers.

How does the international competition work?

Each country sends one representative, and the final night narrows the field through successive rounds before the winner is named. In 2025 those rounds were a Top 30, then a Top 12, then a Top 5.

The format changes almost every year. The 2026 format will be confirmed by the international organisation.

The 2026 edition

When is Miss Universe 2026?

The Miss Universe 2026 final takes place on 24 November 2026. It is the 75th edition of the competition.

Where is Miss Universe 2026 held?

Miss Universe 2026 is held at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the fourth time Puerto Rico has hosted, after Dorado in 1972, Bayamón in 2001 and San Juan in 2002.

Who will represent France at Miss Universe 2026?

France’s representative for the 2026 edition has not yet been selected. She will be chosen through the new French selection, and the announcement will be published on this site.

How can I watch Miss Universe 2026?

Broadcast arrangements for Miss Universe 2026 have not been announced. The broadcaster and the start time will be published here as soon as they are confirmed.

Applying

How do I apply to Miss Universe France?

Applications to Miss Universe France were received from 14 August 2026 to 28 August 2026, and the form is now closed. The next stages of the selection will be announced on this site.

That form is the only official channel. Treat any other page or account claiming to take applications with suspicion: applying is free, and no application fee exists.

Who is eligible to compete?

Eligibility is set by the international Miss Universe organisation, and the conditions for the 2026 edition will be published with the rules.

What the international organisation has announced in recent years changes a great deal: since 2023, married women, divorced women and mothers may compete, and since 2024 there is no upper age limit. The minimum age remains 18. If those rules carry over to 2026, the competition is open to far more women than most people assume.

We will publish the exact conditions rather than paraphrase them: a promise broader than the rulebook would later have to be withdrawn from people who had already applied.

Do I need to have won a regional competition?

No. There is no regional circuit to complete before the Miss Universe France selection. That is the most concrete difference from how this has historically worked in France.

Is the selection open to the overseas territories?

The selection will be open to women from every French region and territory, mainland and overseas alike.

France’s record

Has France ever won Miss Universe?

Yes, twice. Christiane Martel won Miss Universe 1953, and Iris Mittenaere won Miss Universe 2016, crowned on 30 January 2017 in Manila.

Sixty-three years separate the two crowns.

What is France’s record at Miss Universe?

France has two wins and twenty-three documented results at Miss Universe between 1953 and 2025. Every line of our table has been checked against that edition’s own record and published with its source.

France’s best result other than a win is Flora Coquerel’s Top 5 in 2015.

Who represented France at Miss Universe 2025?

Ève Gilles represented France at Miss Universe 2025 and placed in the Top 30. She is the last delegate sent by the Miss France organisation.
